Babiru | Proof of Concept Teaser

Trailer writing for Nguyen-Anh Nguyen's BABIRU - Sci-Fi Feature Film Proof of Concept (Unreal Engine Animation).

I worked extensively with Anh to edit the 16 minute proof of concept film for BABIRU, and when he first told me about using the material to create a proof of concept trailer – like his eye-catching past work like the Akira Project and TEMPLE – I was eager to help get his vision out there.

My primary contribution was writing the voice over for this teaser. Using screenwriter Philip Gelatt's script for the 16 min film as a foundation, I wrote voice over from the main character Hamsa's point of view – condensing the story points for maximum intrigue, while grounding us in a personal view into this machine world Anh created. I was delighted to see the final teaser and learn that the text I wrote was unchanged – even when moving from my scratch audio takes we used in early drafts, to the re-recordings Anh directed with Alisha-Marie Ahamed, and Anh's longtime trailer collaborator, Arno Faure (Akira Project, Temple) cutdown the larger film to the text in a thrilling way.

This was a lot of fun to work on – and I'm thrilled to finally be able to share the result after this projects many behind the scenes journeys.

Mixing Unreal Engine 5 and DaVinci Resolve - how new film Babiru is changing animation

The production, a trailer that's acting as a proof of concept, centres around the remnants of Babiru, a megalopolis populated by A.I. robots. The conceptual short pitches the idea, what happens when humanity is gone and the machines are left alone, to live on?
